Before Landing: Filling Online Visa and Essential Documentation

Before you arrive in Nepal, it is crucial to ensure that you have obtained the necessary visa. Thankfully, the process of obtaining a visa has become more streamlined with the introduction of online visa applications. To save time and energy, it is highly recommended to fill out the visa form online prior to your arrival. The online visa application can be easily accessed through the official website of the Department of Immigration.

Getting Your Visa on Arrival
Upon landing at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, you can collect your visa by following these steps:

  • Fill out the visa application form available at the immigration counter. ' Arrival Card '
  • Fill in the Online ‘Tourist Visa ‘form ( you can fill it up before your arrival by visiting our official website  Department of Immigration / fill it up using Kiosk machines upon your arrival at the airport).  If you fill it out from the website, you will get a submission Receipt with a barcode, please print it out and bring it along to acquire a visa. It works for fifteen days and becomes invalid then after.  If so, you will have to fill it up again. link site to fill out the online form, website:: https://nepaliport.immigration.gov.np/  (After submitting better not to pay online. Pay after you arrive in Nepal)
  • Make payment  at the bank according to your visa requirement ( 15/30/90 Days)
  • Get the receipt
  • Proceed to the Immigration Desk with your online form,  payment receipts, and your passport
  • Hand in your documents to the immigration officer for visa processing. He/she issues a visa to you upon his/her satisfaction.

It is important to note that Nepal offers different types of visas, such as tourist visas, business visas, and work visas. For a tour in Nepal, you will need to apply for a tourist visa, which allows you to stay in the country for a certain duration.

Duration of Visa in Nepal
The duration of your tourist visa in Nepal depends on the length of your stay. As of the time of writing, the following options are available:

  1. 15 days: USD 30
  2. 30 days: USD 50
  3. 90 days: USD 125

It is important to plan your itinerary accordingly and choose the appropriate visa duration. If you wish to extend your stay in Nepal, you can do so by visiting the Department of Immigration in Kathmandu.

Visa Extension Fee 

  • Tourist visa extension is done for a minimum of 15 days with USD 45 and USD 3 per day for additional days.
  • In the case of a delay of less than 150 days additional USD 5 per day a late fine.

 

Gratis Visa (Visa for Free)

Gratis Visa is issued free of cost in the case of the following categories of Visa applicants:

  1. Children below 10 years except for US citizens
  2. Up to 30 days for SAARC Citizens (except Afghanistan) visiting Nepal for the first time in a given visa Year.  Afghan citizens are eligible for a Gratis Visa on Arrival only upon the recommendation of the Department of Immigration. If you are an Afghan citizen, you can request the concerned institution invite you to Nepal for the necessary paperwork with the Department of Immigration to get you a Gratis Visa 'On Arrival'.
  3. Non-Residential Nepalese(NRN) card holder ( issued by MoFA /Nepalese diplomatic missions abroad)
  4. Chinese Nationals for 150 days

  • Russian Federation – Exemption up to 90 Days
  • People’s Republic of China – Exemption up to 30 Days
  • The Federal Republic of Brazil – Exemption up to 90 Days

  • Cambodia - Exemption up to 30 Days
  • Mongolia - Exemption up to 90 Days
  • Jordan - Exemption up to 90 Days
  • State of Israel - Exemption up to 90 Days
  • Georgia - Exemption up to 90 Days
  • State of Qatar - Exemption up to 90 Days

Visas of all kinds including ‘Gratis’ issued at the Airport are Tourist Visas. Contact the Department of Immigration for extending your visa or changing the category of your visa. Tourist Visa extension can be done from the Immigration Office, Pokhara too. Non-tourist visa extension can be done only at the Department of Immigration (if eligible) for a period of a maximum of one year (except for business visa).
